How to access Work Zone Content from the Configuration Editor?

Hi everyone, 

first time posting, so please excuse possible mistakes in posting this question. 

I'm facing the following problem. I developed an UI Integration Card in SAP Business Application Studio, which makes use of the Configuration Editor, when imported into SAP Work Zone AE. Despite the shown possibilities, I don't understand how I can make content, residing in a Work Zone workspace, accessable in this Configuration Editor. What I'm aiming for, would be something similar to the Configuration Editor of the Rotating Banner Widget: 

I would appreciate it very much, if someone could nudge me into the right direction on how to face this problem. What I saw by inspecting our Work Zone instance, is the content_ajax calls made by Work Zone to fetch the content data. But how I could make them usable in the Configuration Editor, is out of my current understanding.
