Following on from another thread, where poor performance of a legacy DB (ASA10) was wrongly attributed (by me!) to Virtualisation, I'd be interested to know what the official view is on this in regard to more current versions?
I believe I was seeing about 25%-30% slower performance on queries and 1000% slow down on dbbackup, but my tests were not that scientifically conducted. This was on both Intel and AMD Ryzen CPUs.
Request clarification before answering.
The SQL Anywhere team is continuing to test the performance effects of the Meltdown/Spectre patches. Preliminary results indicate that it depends (that should not be a surprise!) We've seen anywhere between negligible effect to ~20% slowdown. Tests are ongoing.

Thanks for that. Any thoughts on the speed of dbbackup?
