Environment:
SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.3 Support Pack 3 Patch 3 (Clustered CMS 2 node environment on SUSE linux)
Question:
How do I get an item in the recycle bin to be "Deleted" when it can't be restored, nor can it be deleted through normal means? (right click object select Delete doesn't work, nor does a "restore")
Details:
- An administrator deleted a folder and all its sub folders from root of a public folder. This folder had dashboards, reports, work flows, Security. This content is no longer needed and is safe to remove.
- Prior to making changes, the Admin backed up the folder and all dependencies to an LCMBIAR file.
- The admin then "deleted the folder" encountered some "issues" but was able to delete all objects by deleting the sub folders individually, some of the objects individually and then the root folder.
- The admin then attempted to purge the deleted objects from the Recycle Bin. Most of which were purged from recycle except for a single folder having some sub objects which will NOT delete and will not restore.
- Attempts were made to restore the objects via LCMBIAR file and then restore the recycled folder; but this too did not work. (assume a different CUID was used on restore)
- The error encountered initially was "Failed to restore item the path does not exist"
- Subsequent errors to delete simply state: ERROR: Failed to delete item
Paths Considered;
- SAP Note 2604973 indicates to restore the parent folder; but the parent folder was successfully deleted from the recycle bin.
- A separate online article indicated one might be able to delete using query builder: However SAP note 3208900 indicates this isn't possible and indicates deleting directly from the CMS database is not a supported approach.
- SAP note 2470791 was reviewed and seems similar to this situation but applies to only 4.2 environments and indicates issue was fixed in 4.3 (which is what is being used) so does this KBA apply to 4.3 as well?
So the question remains:
using a supported approach, how do we remove the unneeded object (folder and sub objects) given normal processes have failed?
