Our scenario is to install HCI-DS agent onto a virtual machine and pull data from ECC to IBP system. Could someone please let us know how to install agent on a virtual machine and pull data from ECC.

What kind of VM did you have in mind ?
The requirements for the VM would be:
- Supported OS version (like Windows 2008/2012, SuSE 12 or RedHat 7) all details are in the PAM: https://support.sap.com/content/dam/library/ssp/infopages/pam-essentials/TIP/PAM_SAP_HANA_CLOUD_INTE...
- Minimum hardware requirements 2 CPU & 4 GB of memory (ideally double this for a productive agent)
- Network access: direct access (RFC) to your onPremise ECC system, internet access (HTTPS) to the IBP server in the cloud.
Next you can follow the documentation on https://help.sap.com/viewer/7d9858e1309e459093ed397c6fc40f12/latest/en-US to install and configure the agent.
