HANA Upgrade with system replication Setup

Dear Guru's,

I have a question on upgrading the HANA Database version from 1.0 to 2.0 with system replication setup

I refereed the SAP Document on upgrade with system replication setup

1. Can i do upgrade on Secondary site without disabling the replication? since its mentioned in the document as replication active -> i am confused whether with replication enabled we can do upgrade or post upgrade we have to enable replication?

2. In case if a Database need to be reverted to Older/ previous version itself what can be done?

restoring old backup will mismatch with binaries right?

is it possible to go with image_backup restore

Hello Mithran,

Conversion from Single Container to MDC with HANA System Replication on is not supported. Kindly refer below SAP Note for more details.

For contingency plan, make sure you take snapshot of entire server or file system backup before you proceed with the upgrade. This snapshot can be used to recover old binaries of HANA database.

2. For MDC to MDC no issues right?

System replication can take place from HANA System on lower version to HANA System or higher version (reverse is not possible). So if you start your secondary HANA system after upgrade, replication will be automatically established between primary and secondary. You can refer below SAP Note to get idea on how upgrade can be done with system replication.

NOTE: Above SAP Note is for 3 tier as title suggest, but you have refer couple of points inside that note to get an idea on how it can be done.

2. For MDC to MDC no issues right?

There is no issue between MDC to MDC.
