GRDC cloud apps integration without Destinations

Could GRDC apps be integrated with an S/4 private cloud in any way without using the Destination/connectivity service, but directly via API? Could the API Management hub on BTP be used to expose the required APIs from the S/4 backend to GRDC apps?

GRDC could connect to private cloud / OP via cloud connector.
