Free-Hand SQL Rights missing in 4.2 SAP BI

Hi,

We have installed SAP BI 4.2 SP08 Patch 3 in our servers, we have QA and PROD environments. Users are able to create reports in PROD based on Free-Hand SQL data source but unable to migrate those reports to QA or to create reports based on free-hand SQL.

Upon looking at the rights, I see the rights for Free-hand SQL are missing in System-> Relational Connection under User security for Connections but the same is available in PROD CMC.

QA user security:

PROD user security:

Please let me know on how to get the Free-Hand SQL on our QA.

Thanks & Regards

Vrikshika Narayanan

I've seen similar behavior after an upgrade - missing rights in the Applications tab in CMC.  I can't find the SAP Note right now, but from what I remember there were two solutions given.  The first is just to run a "Repair" installation.  If that doesn't work, then there's a process to manually copy .dfo files from one place to another.  For us, the second solution did the trick.

The repair didn't fix the issue. Could you please help me with which dfo files needs to be updated to get the set of rights needed for the Free-hand SQL. I can copy them from the PROD servers and paste them in packages of the QA system if I knew which one to copy.

Ok, so you know about that procedure - good! I checked our installation for the name of the permission and I found it in this file: BusinessObjects_CCIS.DataConnection_pin.xml

That worked wonderfully. Thanks for your input.

Check that you have the same version/SP and Patch on the QA system as PROD

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

We have the exact same version, SP and Patch on both our systems.

Thanks.

Are both systems a new installation or an update to an old version?

Hi, Both our systems are an update on older version. Recently we wanted to update our Server OS to Windows 2019, so we installed the current BI version4.2 SP08 Patch 3 on new Windows servers and pointed the SIAs to our existing CMS DB. Still, QA and PROD both had similar steps for the upgrade of the BI version and the Server upgrade. Thanks Vrikshika
