Feature in EP6

Hi All,

This is regarding features in EP6 SP2.

Presently am uploading the portal components in .par. Is there any other format available like .epa(

heard that epa stands for enterprise portal archive) that we can upload in EP6.

Am just going thru docs available with EP server. Is there any other documents I can go through?

If someone can clear this(like what epa stands for, what it does or where to get information) it will

be of great help to proceed with.

TIA,

Hi Rem,

From my understanding…

With Eclipse you can only deploy your components as par files.

Once it's in the portal, you can make an epa package (EP, System Administration --> Transport --> Export) to distribute it to other portals. You could also distribute the par file, but the epa format has a significant adavantage. You can combine your component with worksets, pages, roles ...

Eclipse --> Portal (components and resources)

Portal --> Portal (iViews, Pages, Worksets, Roles,...)

Hope, it helps

Best Regards

Hi Rajeev,

Thanks for the update.

I am using eclipse 2.1, installed the plug-ins too. When I export the portal components, am able to generate only the .par file.

Will you please elaborate "import into EP6"?

Does .epa supported in EP5 too? If so what is the significance of the 2 types of extensions .par and .epa?

If you can provide some information it will be helpful or if you can give me some links to refer, I can proceed further into.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Rem,

just as eplained before - an .epa file is created if you want to transport PCD objects (used for importing or exporting them to translate them for example) and is a "portal .zip file".

.par files are "java .zip files" which you receive from downloaded or developed iviews for example.

.epa files can be 'imported' into EP6. you are right, it stands for enterprise portal archive. This is a portal-specific format for compressed files. An EPA file may contain portal contents such as pages, worksets, templates, user roles etc.

Basically, you create the contents in the portal and then export and EPA file for distribution of those contents...
