Hi there,

Is it possible to export Manual Test Plans/Cases from one SAP Cloud ALM and Import into another?

I can see some exports are available as simple excel lists but there does not seem to be an import for manual test cases, there is only an import for automated test cases.

I have read:

But these are more about creating the test case manually and importing all the best practice steps and then manually selecting/deselecting the steps.

In our case all this work has been done in one SAP Cloud ALM tenant, and we simply want to mass download and upload to a different tenant, if possible.

Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

SAP Cloud ALM currently only offers the option to export manual Test Cases in an excel files, so that the excel file can be re-uploaded for the purpose of editing the existing Test Cases. As per the Product documentation, it is not currently possible to create Test Cases via the excel upload. So this functionality cannot be used to perform a transfer of Test Cases from one SAP Cloud ALM tenant to another.

A possible workaround exists. But it requires a large amount of manual effort.

  1. Export the Test Cases as an excel file from the "source" SAP Cloud ALM tenant.
  2. Count the number of Test Cases that need to be re-created in the "target" tenant.
  3. Create that amount of Test Cases in the target tenant, with very basic placeholder data (you can copy + paste the same data to save time).
  4. Export the excel file of these "placeholder" Test Cases from the "target" tenant.
  5. Copy the real data from the "source" tenant excel file, then paste it into the "target" tenant excel file.
    1. Ensure that no data generated by the "target" SAP Cloud ALM tenant is overwritten (e.g. Test Case ID numbers).
  6. Upload the edited "target" excel file in the "Target" SAP Cloud ALM tenant.
  7. The "placeholder" Test Cases should now be updated to reflect the same data that was exported from the "source" tenant.

If this workaround is not acceptable, please create a request using the SAP Customer Influence campaign related to SAP Cloud ALM for Implementation.

*Of course* this workaround is not acceptable! Is that even a question?

We are waiting (and expecting) the following roadmap item to target exactly this situation, and allow us to create test cases assigned to a process, instead of a project. This will allow the correct reuse of test cases, as it should have always been possible.

Thanks,
