Hello,
I just installed trial version of Predictive Analysis, however, when I open it, I get the error - Invalid configuration location and the message tells me to choose writable location using the '-configuration' command line option. However, I don't know where to find the '-configuration' option. I am using windows 7 32 bit for the install. Attached is the error message
Thanks for the help in advance.
Sunit
Hello Sunit,
The error looks as if SAP PA was installed on a VMWare image and that for some reason SAP PA is trying to access your host.
If this could be the case, then plesase try the following
- Uninstall SAP PA in the virutal machine
- Copy the setup into the virtual machine
- Disconnect the shared folder
- Install

Hi Sunit,
adding to Andreas comment, please also check the following (in case you did not install on VM):
Go to: C:\\Program Files\SAP Predictive Analysis\eDesktop\SAPPredictiveAnalysis.ini
In there you find the following line:
Dosgi.configuration.area=@user.home/.predictive/configuration
It seems your @user.home is redirecting to the redirected folders path and you do not have write rights in this location. I suggest you change the configuration value to a location (on your local disk) where you have write rights.
Best Regards,
Clarissa

Thanks Andreas & Clarissa for your responses.
I do have VMware as you rightly guessed and tried to disconnect the shared drive but that did not help.
I can see the data in the ini file as mentioned above, however, I am not sure how to point @user.home to a place where I have write rights. Can you please elaborate further? Note that I have admin rights on this computer.
Thanks,
Sunit
Hello Sunit,
The @user.home is picking up the folder from a Java configuration. Here is a discussion about that behaviour on the VMWare forums.
Windows cannot access \\vmware-host\shared fold... | VMware Communities
In this case an uninstall/reinstall of SAP PA would not help either I am afraid.
I can only think of these two options
- Correct the Java / VMWare configuration. Maybe the thread above will help
- Use a different/cleam VMWare image
Greetings
Andreas
Hi Clarissa,
I am facing the same issue and saw your reply and followed as per your instructions.
I did changed the location for the Configuration area as:
-Dosgi.configuration.area=@user.MyDocuments/.predictive/configuration but it is not allowing me to save it in the same folder. So how where can I save it ? Please advise .
Thanks
Hi,
I think there is a solution to this issue where Windows prevents you from updating the SAPPredictiveAnalysis.ini file.
This is what works for me:
Take a copy of the SAPPredictiveAnalysis.ini file.
Paste the copy to your windows desktop (or similar where you have write access).
Edit the SAPPredictiveAnalysis.ini file with Notepad for instance. One option is to increase the XMX memory setting - depending on your laptop. I have 16GB RAM in ,my laptop and have increased the memory to Xmx8096m. Also if you want need more data points in your visualizations increase the maxvizdatasetsize etc.
Save the SAPPredictiveAnalysis.ini file. Go to the original file and rename it to Old_SAPPredictiveAnalysis.ini or what you prefer.
Restart SAP Predictive Analysis for the new ini-file to take effect.
Best regards,
Kurt Holst
