Error in Data Migration Cockpit for fixed asset data migration acquired and disposed within the fisc

Dear expert.

I am writing to inform you about an error encountered during the migration simulation for the migration object "Fixed Assets - Posting" using DMC.

■Pattern 1: Current Year Acquisition/Partial Disposal (With Revenue) & Full Disposal (With Revenue)

・Error Details:

• Message Class: FAA_POST 
• Message Number: 503 
• "The detail type 07940 for partial transfer value is invalid"

・Error Background:

• The error occurred while attempting to migrate data with sub-ledger detail type 07940 to specify the sale amount in the "Transaction Partial Value" sheet.

■Pattern 2: Current Year Acquisition/Partial Disposal (Without Revenue) & Full Disposal (Without Revenue)

・Error Details:

• Message Class: AA
• Message Number: 378
• "Partial disposal or transfer of asset data from previous fiscal years cannot be executed"

・Error Background:

• The error occurred while attempting to migrate data for disposal posting of fixed assets acquired in the current year in the "Transaction Partial Value" sheet.

These are the details of the errors encountered.

Regarding Pattern 1, it appears that the sub-ledger detail type 07940 should be usable according to the help portal (https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_S4HANA_CLOUD/d5699934e7004d048c4801b552f3b013/3c0dddd9424549fe9c46db30... but an error indicates it is not usable.

Regarding Pattern 2, despite the disposal being for current year acquisition data, the error indicates that there is no previous fiscal year data.

Is the above error a bug? Also, is it not possible to migrate fixed asset data that was acquired and disposed of (sold) within the current fiscal year using DMC? If migration is possible, could you please provide the steps?

Pattern 1:
SAP Knowledge Base Article 3429989 states that only specific sub-ledger line item types allow proportional valuation entries during migration.

Ensure that the sub-ledger line item type is included in the permitted values for proportional transfer entries.

You may refer to the SAP Help Portal below for a list of valid line item types and their applications in the "Fixed Asset—Postings" migration object.

Pattern 2:
If you are encountering this error for assets acquired in the current fiscal year, it may be due to incorrect or missing acquisition dates in the system. Please refer to the KBA below

However, verify that your migration template accurately sets the acquisition dates for the assets concerned to the current fiscal year. Additionally, ensure that the transaction types used for disposals are appropriate for current-year acquisitions.

All data entries in the migration templates should be thoroughly validated before proceeding with the migration to ensure compliance with SAP's requirements for fixed asset postings. Asset postings.

Secondly it is not a bug, this is a known system limitation, the Data Migration Cockpit (DMC) does not support the acquisition and disposal of assets in a single step when they occur within the same fiscal year.

Is Migration Possible?
Yes – fixed assets that are acquired and disposed of within the same fiscal year can be migrated, but the process must be divided and executed in two distinct steps.

SAP-Recommended Workaround:
Step 1: Migrate Acquisition Only
Use: Migration Object "Fixed Assets – Posting" in DMC

Include only:

- Acquisition value

- Acquisition date (must fall in the current fiscal year)

- Depreciation start date

Do not include: Disposal or transfer data

Relevant T-Codes for verification/checks

- AS03 – Display Asset Master

- AW01N – Asset Explorer

Step 2: Post Disposal Manually in the System
Once the acquisition migration is complete:

Use T-Code: ABAVN – Post Retirement by Scrapping
(or Fiori App: “Post Retirement” if using S/4HANA)

For revenue-related disposals:
Use T-Code: ABAON – Asset Retirement with Revenue

This manual step ensures:

- Proper transaction flow

- Accurate depreciation

- Gain/loss is correctly calculated in the system.
