Equal Workload distribution to HANA Scale out database servers.

Hi Experts,

There are 8 databases in HANA 2.0 SP05 Rev 59 DB scale out environment.

I noticed a SQL query is running on the particular db server and spike up CPU /Memory more while other DB hosts are less utilized.

* How to equalize that SQL execution to all DB hosts. Please provide more details if there is a solution.

* if one DB host is spiked up, will it hang the whole DB response to application server?

Hi,

IMO, it's important to distinguish whether you're really issuing a certain SQL query or not.

That is, if your concern is to distribute your workloads evenly to your multiple HANA instances regardless of which SQL query runs at which instance, the answer would be totally different.

Assuming that you concern about a certain SQL query only, usually there are some conditions to determine where the SQL query to run.

For example, if this SQL query is to select from table A, obviously this query cannot run at other instances except the HANA instance where table A is stored.

So, plz check if the database artifacts of your SQL query are distributed over multiple HANA instances or not.

If not, you might resolve your issue by distributing it (e.g., change the table to partitioned table, then distribute the partitions evenly to your HANA instances).
