EHP 3 for EHP 4 - Why?

Dear Gurus.

Ih Enhancement package are "cumulative" , why EHP 3 package are required for EHP4 installation - boht in SAINT and SAPEHPI methods?

Hi,

it is not mandatory that you should install EHP3 before EHP4. you can directly install EHP4 patches.

When I install EHP4 via SAPEHPI, Solman's MOPZ adds to download basket packages of EHP3 too....

Hi,

when you download EHP4 via MOPZ in solution manager then it will automatically calcluate the queue depending upon your source stack registered in solman and if some patches has pre-requisite of EHP3 then it will install that also...

if you are on ECC 6.0 , you can directly go to EHP4....

I know that I can upgrade directly to EHP4. But WHY I need the EHP3 patches in my queue during upgrade?

If some patches in EHP4 has dependency on EHP3 then you need EHP3 patches..

Enhancement Package 4 includes Enhancement Package 3 (cummulative). But in terms of installation packages SAP decided to provide the packages for EHP3 and on top the delta package for EHP4. It would have been an option to include all changes in 3 directly in the EHP4 package (as done for EHP2 and EHP3), but then customers starting the update from an installed EHP3 would have to go though all the SPAU conflict resolution already done. Hence only the delta package is offered and the update to Enhancement Package 4 from lower EHP3 automatically includes the EHP3 package.

By the way - what about EHP 5 and further? Will they also be released as delta to previous one?
