Over the years, I would often refer customers to the Sybase site to purchase SQL Anywhere. Now, none of those links work and a ten minute search for a way to purchase a Workgroup SQL Anywhere 12 was fruitless. Does anyone have a link which can be used to purchase a Workgroup SQLA 12? Thanks.
Request clarification before answering.
It didn't make sense to me that version 12 was not actually available for purchase, so I have been looking into this a little bit and I wanted to clarify a couple of things.
It took a while to navigate to the right place :), but I found out that, in fact, you can actually buy version 12 directly from the SAP Store.
Unlike the old Sybase e-shop, the SAP store does not create a new sku (part number) for each version of SQL Anywhere released. The way it is intended to work is that one buys the license from the store and then selects the actual version of the software at the time of download from the order fulfillment site (called service marketplace in SAP-land).
The presence of the version number (16) on the actual store pages for each SQL Anywhere edition is misleading and has been fixed.
I hope this helps clear things up.

I fully agree, thanks for the clarification!
I had asked this in a comment on Jeff's answer:
That raises the usual question: Does the v16 license allow to use an older version instead (in case one does have the according setup)?
So in my understanding, this is almost true: You buy the "general" product, and then you can download the desired version. If so, is the version limited to currently active versions?
Yes, your understanding is basically correct.
Once you make the purchase, you can download/deploy any of the active verions - version 12 or version 16.
I should note that Version 11 is a special case. While technically still an active release, the effort/process to get all of the approvals in place to put it in the store would most likely take us past to the EOL date, so the decision was made to not put it in the SAP Store. With new releases, now that we are fully integrated with SAP this should not be a problem.
Once a version is end-of-lifed, it is no longer made available for purchase from the SAP Store. Note, that this is potentially different if you are an OEM partner, since you do not go through the Store to buy licenses.
In my experience, buying a license for SA16 enables me to generate a licence for SA12 within SPDC, also having access to download SA12 via a button "Previous Versions" (going back to 9.0.2, if needed).
So IMHO you might not be able to buy SA12 directly, but by purchasing SA16 you should get what you need. For some customers that bought SA16 we first installed SA12, while we were evaluating SA16. But that way they've got the option of upgrading to SA16 any time without additional licence costs.
Having said that, I'd recommend trying SA16. We've had no problems migrating some of our clients from ASA9 or SA11 to SA16. Besides, chosing SA16 instead of SA12 has the advantage of a longer product lifetime until it get's EOLed.

I realized that, but I don't think Jeff ever bought any version of SQLA 😉
It's true - I have never purchased any version of SQL Anywhere. I guess that is one inherent employee perk of where I work - free software and upgrades while on the job! 😉
New customers (and new SQL Anywhere purchases) are no longer gaining access to the SPDC - Software Downloads are now handled through the SAP Support Portal website: http://support.sap.com/
Current customers retain their SPDC access. I haven't heard any direct plans or announcements about the future plans for the SPDC, but we will certainly share any news as far and wide as we can if that status is planned to change.
Now, none of those links work
Yes, this is correct. The Sybase eShop was retired as of December 31, 2013.
Now, none of those links work and a ten minute search for a way to purchase a Workgroup SQL Anywhere 12 was fruitless.
On the main SQL Anywhere SCN community page: http://scn.sap.com/community/sql-anywhere, in the right-hand menu bar, there is a link to the SAP Store that sells SAP SQL Anywhere.
Does anyone have a link which can be used to purchase a Workgroup SQLA 12?

SQL Anywhere can be purchased from the SAP Store.
Thank you for your feedback that the link to this store was difficult to find.
