Hello experts.

I am a novice to SAP and I want to know several things about SAP ECC and S/4 HANA in HCM.

About HCM

  • What are the main features of SAP HCM?
  • What are the differences between SAP HCM and Success Factors? (cost, system configuration, coverage, etc.)
  • What are the details when SAP HCM once integrated into Success Factor?
  • What is the licensing structure (e.g. how much does it cost to use what features)?
  • What are the benefits of implementing HCM?

Please reply if you know the answer to any of these questions. Thanks for your help.

Best regards,

Reo

SAP ECC (ERP Central Component) and SAP S/4HANA (Business Suite 4 SAP HANA) are both enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems developed by SAP, but they have significant differences, especially in the Human Capital Management (HCM) module. Here are the key differences:

1. Database and Performance

SAP ECC: Operates on traditional relational databases like Oracle, SQL Server, or IBM DB2. Performance and speed are dependent on the underlying database.
SAP S/4HANA: Runs exclusively on the SAP HANA in-memory database, providing significantly improved performance, real-time data processing, and faster analytics.

2. User Interface

SAP ECC: Uses the traditional SAP GUI (Graphical User Interface), which can be seen as less intuitive and more challenging for new users.
SAP S/4HANA: Utilizes SAP Fiori, a modern, web-based user interface designed for a more intuitive and user-friendly experience, available on various devices.

3. Data Model and Architecture

SAP ECC: Follows a traditional data model with a more complex structure and separate tables for transactions and analytics.
SAP S/4HANA: Simplifies the data model by reducing the number of database tables, using the power of the HANA database to combine transactional and analytical data for real-time insights.

4. Functionality and Features

SAP ECC HCM: Comprehensive but based on older technology, requires additional customization and integration for modern HR processes and capabilities.
SAP S/4HANA HCM (SuccessFactors): Modernized HCM suite known as SAP SuccessFactors. It includes improved functionalities for core HR, talent management, payroll, and analytics. SAP is also focusing on moving HCM capabilities to the cloud with SuccessFactors, providing a more seamless and integrated experience.

5. Integration and Extensibility

SAP ECC: Integration with other systems and modules can be complex and require significant effort.
SAP S/4HANA: Offers better integration capabilities within the SAP ecosystem and with third-party applications, thanks to its advanced APIs and SAP Cloud Platform, making it easier to extend and customize.

6. Deployment and Maintenance

SAP ECC: Typically deployed on-premise, requiring significant hardware, maintenance, and upgrade efforts.
SAP S/4HANA: Can be deployed on-premise, in the cloud, or in a hybrid model. Cloud deployment offers easier maintenance, regular updates, and reduced infrastructure overhead.

7. Innovation and Roadmap

SAP ECC: Limited new feature development as SAP focuses on its next-generation ERP suite.
SAP S/4HANA: Active development with regular updates and new features, ensuring continuous innovation and support from SAP.

8. Migration and Adoption

SAP ECC: Existing customers face significant efforts to upgrade to S/4HANA, involving data migration, process transformation, and user training.
SAP S/4HANA: SAP provides various tools and support for migration, but the process can still be resource-intensive and requires careful planning.
