Difference in output from CR vs CR Runtime

Using Crystal Reports 2013 SP6, Ver 14.1.6.1702

I design a label in CR to be 1.1" tall and 2.50" long. When I print it directly from CR designer, it prints as desired - 1.1" by 2.50".(that is, the printer automatically cuts the label from the continuous label stock at 2.50" long).

Our users use an app called Report Runner Viewer ("RRV" - formerly Jeff-Net Report Runner - https://reportrunner.com/products) to display and print CR reports without requiring CR to be installed; my understanding is that RRV makes use of the CR runtimes to both display and print reports. If I generate and print the same label from within RRV, it also prints correctly.

However, when printed by way of RRV's command line option, it prints 3.5" long, which is the default length set in the printer driver that is being used (Brother QL-820NWB). I have reached out to Brother Support to find a way to change the default length, but that does not explain why I am having this issue. I have also reached out to the RRV team to see if they can explain.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I changed the tag on your question to "SAP Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio", which is the correct tag for questions about the .NET SDK and runtime. The "SAP Crystal Reports" tag is for questions about general report design and how to work with the SAP Crystal Reports desktop software.

Hi Carmine,

I doubt Brother would be able to do anything for you but maybe setting up a new Brother printer with the defaults you need may work for you.

I also suggest sending RRV folks this link and get them to update their application to support the latest .NET runtime:

https://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/Crystal+Reports%2C+Developer+for+Visual+Studio+Downloads

Looking at their site it looks like they are using older versions - Crystal Reports 2011

Have a great day

Don

Just a note that Report Runner supports ALL/ANY Crystal runtime engine a user wants to use. It ships with SP20, because that's a very stable release that will only help users using a SP less than that, but won't override someone using a later SP. Installing the "latest" release will break a LOT of systems that are dependent on specific service packs.
