Hello,

I would like to know exact difference between these 2 offerings. enterprise event enablement which is standard functionality available in S4 HANA and also there is add-on for event enablement available which can be installed on NW. Please let me know use cases for both of these options and any plan to merge these 2 functionalities by SAP?

Hi Chandra,

Hard to answer this in a few sentences. Let me still try.

The Add-On

1. The add-on can be used on S/4HANA oP and ECC; it does not work for S/4HANA Cloud.

2. It allows you to create custom events - there are no standard / out-of-the-box events today

3. The events are created in a low code / no code approach or in pro-code, depending on the use case

4. Still, you have to create every event yourself, at the same point in time you are able to create almost every event you need.

5. The add-on is pretty much independent of the backend version, it works for older versions as well

6. You decide whether you want a data event or a notification event

Enterprise Event Enablement

1. Is available for S/4HANA Cloud and oP, not for ECC

2. For the full feature set it requires a newer / up to date S/4HANA

3. You get 500+ standard events out of the box; most of these are notification events

4. With most backend versions these events are not adjustable, you have to use what is there

5. With the upcoming 2023 release, new features are planned to allow for adjusting standard events to specific use cases

6. The standard events to a large extent are already based on RAP, the ABAP RESTFul Application Programming model

7. Based on RAP, with newer/upcoming versions you will be able to create custom events as well.

Conclusion

It really depends what is the better option for your specific situation, and factors to take into account are your landscape, the specifics of your backend systems, the events you need, the skill set you have, whether you want to code ...

The good thing is: both options are very powerful and offer a great feature set. So it's choosing between two excellent options. Bringing the options together over time we have to see: the add-on for example does not work for S/4HANA Cloud, ECC does not support RAP. So, let's see what we can do.

Best,

Karsten

So if we need to create a custom event, than we can not use the Enterprise Event Enablement ?
