developer key for a newer than 30 days install

Hi,

Just installed NW 2004s ABAP edition after a long hassle... As far as I understood, for the first 30 days no license key is necessary; however, when I tried to create my first program, I was asked for a developer key. Am I missing something?

First, make sure we are talking about a developer key and not an object registration key. Make sure that the object you are creating starts with "Z" or "Y". If it doesn't, the system will ask for a object reg key. If it is truely asking for a developer key, then make sure that you are logged on as BCUSER and use this developer key.

I am logged as BCUSER and just renaming the object as starting with "Z" was enough to write my first program. For now is enough...

Just remember that you will have to enter it in eventually, add this link to your favorites so that you can easily reference the developer key number. You can also get it from this site.

Were you asked for a developer key?

I think the key only works after you have applied the 3 month (temporary) system license. The default initial system license (1 month from install) uses a default (different) key.

Are you developing your program with the user BCUSER, as this is the only user allowed to develop programs in mini systems.
