Data validation at API Business HUB

We have consumed standard odata service from external system . In the external system we are getting business partner number .If the bp number is invalid then standard service response is blank not giving any error message. We need error message as "invalid BP number" . Is it possible to write the code using API HUB policies or any other way writing code at API HUb level. Please let me know.

Thanks for your reply. I have created new API proxy by consuming standard Odata service. Now we want to validate the data and want to change the entity set name . Third party system can't accept the entity set name more than 40 characters so that we have change the entity set name. Is it possible.
