Data access control stoped working on dimentions wIth multiple hiearchies

Hello Experts,

We have a requirement to add multiple Cost Center hierarchies in SAC. Some departments follow different set of CC groupings. As these departments share common stories and models, we considered global CC dimensions and enabled DAC. Later we gradually added new hierarchies on existing dimensions.
We noticed that DAC stopped working once we added new hierarchies to Cost Center. We have a requirement to add 4 additional hierarchies on CC.

We noticed that everything else (reporting) is working, only access is the issue. We checked with generic dimensions on model as well. Same issue.

Wanted to check in community before I log an incident with SAP Support. Did any one encountered such issue ?

Thanks,

Ashok

Hello ash_123,

Multiple hierarchy support in SAC is a long time ask from clients. As you mentioned you can have multiple hierarchies setup (except Account dimension...) on almost all fields. Though some additional functions (like authorization) are still limited/ missing.
SAC supports data access control on first hierarchy (default hierarchy) only. Rest can be used for visualization only. Your DAC setup should still be valid with respect to first hierarchy. If you find this statement is not true in your case then, log a ticket with support. Here is SAP note going over the limi-

2841717 - Data Access Control (DAC) is only applied to the default hierarchy in SAP Analytics Cloud ...

There is an enhancement request on influence portal as well. SAP acknowledged this enhancement as "long term consideration". This means we can expect such support in future (no confirmation on timeline though).

Two of my clients had similar requirements and we end up creating copies of model with different hierarchies. It was an acceptable workaround for us as number of hierarchies were less.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any query around this topic.

You are correct, default hierarchy is considered for access validation.

Thanks for sharing this info.

Hi Debjit,

Is there any possible workaround to address this requirement? without creating separate model for separate hierarchy requirement.

Thanks.

One workaround I can think of is to use a duplicate Cost Center column and create 2nd hierarchy along with DAC on it. Based on requirement switch between CC fields at story level and the access will be considered accordingly.
Until SAP start supporting multiple hierarchies for DAC setup.

Thanks,
