Crystal Reports Server --- to be or not to be

Installed Crystal Reports Server XI R2, on (Windows 2003 sp2 box) , all was fine in the CCM, however the CMS was not running and I want the MYSQL database on this server. Tried to get it running by the troubleshooting info, to no avail..Several users uninstalled and re-installed and the same luck. It's been many months we have not been able to get this server going.

Many downloads are available for use thru ESD, so many that I am looking for a suggestion as to how/what to user for the first install to set up the Crystal Reports Server. I also tried a more recent download of Crystal Reports Server 2008 and my license number didn't work.

Can anyone help.. OH by the way we are supposed to have FREE techinical support until 12/10/2008, which I can not get anyone one the phone to help.

(this may not be a good product to invest in???) comments here would be greatly appreciated .. possiblility of about 200 users if it flys..

Hi Barbara,

Please post the error messages related to the CMS, under Application in the Event Viewer. Also when the CMS fails to start does it throw any error messages on screen.

Is the CMS the only server that fails to start?

I believe you are trying to use the MySQl server packaged with the product rather than a pre-installed MySQL server.

If you have a support agreement and want to log a case with BO support, contact the Customer Interaction Center (CIC) who will assist you with the formalities needed.

The contact information for CIC can be found at https://service.sap.com/contact-bosap.

One of the messages -"The system xxxx can be contacted, but there is no Central Management Server running at port 6400. (did check the configuration and port number 6400 was there

another message: Failed to register with the CMS xxxx. Please make sure the CMIS is up and running. Attempting an automatic retry..

another message was "Failed to recreate the database. Reason: Internal error: An unknown exception has occurred."

I choose MYSQL in the setup (because I do not have MS SQL server running on this box)

I want to do a clean uninstall (which I don't think happened,I did it, but some old users seemed to still be there so besides add/remove programs is there more we should physically delete?)

Thank you, for your help and I did contact support and this is part of what they said: (2 times)

"Dear Barbara,

Thank you for your e-mail.

We must advise you that effective 07 July, 2008, the way we support volume products has changed. We've used the opportunity of the integration of Business Objects and SAP to rethink support practices in order to deliver a better level of service to more customers.

Volume products no longer come with any complimentary support. To speak with an engineer regarding these products, you must have a paid support agreement.

The products covered by this change are:

Volume Products without Bundled Support

Crystal Reports

Crystal Reports Visual Advantage

Crystal Reports for Visual Studio

Crystal Reports for Eclipse

Xcelsius

Xcelsius Engage ....

It did take a while to get thru the the BO->SAP and an old BO contact person was still there and she was able to provide our customer number. So I was finally able to get Tech support was very helpful ! We installed the CR 2008 rather then the older downloads and now is on the server.

Any advice as to what to read/do next (that's FREE) to learn the best way to set up the server/connect to data sources/set security.

Thank you : )
