Crystal Reports freezes and closes in Database Expert

I downloaded an installed Crystal Reports 2011 on Friday and have been unable to even create a new report. Every time I open the program, click Blank Report and then Create a New Connection in the Database Expert, it freezes and closes. I already uninstalled and re-installed the program once.

I am trying to connect to an Excel document. I downloaded the ODBC driver (32 bit) on a 64 bit machine and configured it to connect to my Excel (32 bit) worksheet, which was very confusing to do.  But it's all set up and Crystal Reports won't even try to find it.

Has anyone ever had Crystal Reports crash like this?

So far, I am very unimpressed with this program.  It should not be this hard to import data from an Excel worksheet.

Hi Heather,

I resolved the issue. My solution was run the Crystal Setup again -> choose Modify -> remove (uninstall) the unnecessary data access components under Data Access.

I hope it helps to you as well.

Laszlo

This worked perfectly for me.  Using SAP Business One 9.2 PL04 and Crystal Designer 2016.  Removing the majority of the data sources fixed everything.

Thanks!!

The solution is to rename a temp folder? In another post on this very topic the solution was to edit/remove registry keys. Novel idea would be for SAP to produce a solid product. This issue is extremely troublesome and utterly annoying. These solutions seem to be more like temporary bandages, but the sore is still underneath. The solution is to fix the software and give customers something solid for the almost $500 a license.

If you have a C:\temp directory, rename it to c:\mytemp

Make sure you have read / write permissions for %TEM% directory

I am not sure at what point exactly the freezing comes in, but can you create a connection to any other database?

What OS?

I have Windows 7 (64 bit)

Windows says Crystal Reports has stopped working right when I click on Create New Connection.

I'm not sure if I have a temp directory. Where do I find that and how do I change it?

I don't have any other database to connect to.  My organization uses Vision CPS (a member tracking system for the Boys & Girls Clubs) which exports data into Excel.
