Crystal Reports Fields and Parameters.

Hello,

I want to start by saying I'm very new to crystal reports, and I inherited this database and reports. 

I was asked to add a filter to an existing report to allow the user to filter the data by salesperson. I wanted to add a parameter to allow them to sort by the salesperson, but after selecting the value field there are no database values to append. 

There are existing parameter field already in the report, and those also do no show any database values. 

What am I missing here, an how can I get the values to populate in the parameter creation menu?

Are the existing parameters static or dynamic? I'm assuming that you want to do a drill down style list.
