Create RAP Business Events for change pointers / IDocs

Dear all,

we are in an S/4HANA conversion project to S4H 2023 FPS1 On-Prem. On a separate note we are asked to provide a future looking concept for a more event base / pushed based integration landscape.

That being said I stumbled upon RAP Business Events, and my takeaway was that this ought to be the way forward for event based integration that originates from an ABAP Platform (here S4H 2023) system.

Now one of the current interfaces (of course) distributes parts of the material master to an external system. Currently this is pull, so the external system periodically asks for changes. We want to switch this to push, and levaraging an EDA, e.g. SAP Event Mesh in Integration Suite.

My questions

1.  Is my assumption, that RAP Business Events is generally the future direction and would be a match for the requirement correct?
2. If using RAP BE, how would we raise those events for a changed material? Can we use change pointers or existing BOR event linkages?
3. Optional: What benefits will the also existing Event Enablement Add-On for S/4HANA play in such regard. Is it even necessary when we are on S4H 2023 FPS1 (I also read that with FPS2 some additional features arrive in the area of RAP
