CR VS10 SP2 Installation Problem

When trying to install the CRRuntime_32bit_13_0_2.msi on a Win 7 machine, a user is reporting an error message indicating:

"A newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine."

What is the recommended way of handling this error?

Hi Ido,

That's a new one....

Can you get them to take a screen shot of the Program and Features and see if it shows that Redist package installed and send it to me?

I have Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 ( and x86 ) Runtime - 10.0.30319 - 11/23/2011

Did you set you installer for x86 and not AnyCPU?

Everything shut down before they install and do they have Admin rights?

Don, thanks for the quick response (and on a weekend!).

I sent the user a request for the information. Yes, the installer targets x86 and user is an Admin.

On my development machine, Programs and features show:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 ( and x86 ) Redistributable - 10.0.30319 - 8/16/2011

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 ( and x86 ) Runtime - 10.0.40219 - 6/25/2011

while yours (according to your message above) is:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 ( and x86 ) Runtime - 10.0.30319 - 11/23/2011

Given that there is a later Runtime, perhaps there is also a later Redistributable.

Perhaps the Crystal runtime msi is failing to recognize a machine already has the Visual C++ prerequisite when the machine has a later version of the Redistirubtable?

Just got a reply from the user. Yes, they have a later version of the Redistributable installed, and it shows up as two entries in Programs & Features:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 Redistributable - 10.0.40219 - 12/8/2011

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable - 10.0.40219 - 12/8/2011

The split into 2 different items may be the reason why the msi file fails to detect the prerequisite...

Interesting....

Do you know what installed the update? I just ran windows update and I see SP 1 for VS 2010. likely the reason...

I'll have to check with the build team. Unfortunately, sort of, they are in Shanghai and just getting over the Chinese New Year holidays so it may be a few days before they get to my e-mail...

Thanks

I don't know what was the source for these files, but I bet your guess is correct.

Given that we identified the problem, I hope the Year of the Dragon brings us a solution... :monkey_face:
