Hello,

My requirement is to copy data from production system  to quality system. But quality system does not have enough space there. So without increasing space, how can i copy data from PRD to QAS.Production backup is very much there. So restore is an option? Please help (DB is Oracle).

Thanks,

Sam

Hi Sam.

I did not understand this lines:

Production backup is very much there. So restore is an option?

But, if you want to copy data from PRD to QAS you need to do an Homegeneous System Copy.

You can do it by backup PRD system, and restore it in your QAS system. To achieve that, QAS has to have the same disk space as PRD.

Hi Osvaldo,

Thanks for your input.

Your suggestion is to do homogeneous sytem copy through backup/restore method?

But I do not want to make a new system with new SID.

My requirement is to refresh QAS with PRD data.

But i do not have sufficient space in QAS system.

So i need to overwrite QAS system with PRD data.

Thanks,

Sam

Hello SAM

You can do system copy by using back/restore ,

Check the system copy guide and you dont need to change the SID,

On different SID also you do,

Let us know which Database you are using ( like, oracle or db2 , ms-sql)

Thanks

Hi Sam,

Backup / restore method can overwrite the original data of QAS and change SID from PRD to QAS.

If you do not have enough disk space for storing PRD backup, you can use NFS to mount PRD backup to QAS.

So you disk space on QAS should be prepared to hold data in original PRD.

Hi Sam.

You can try for TDMS, (Test data migration server) refer the SAP help portal

SAP TDMS Application Overview - SAP Library

TDMS Suggested by Sriram, or if you do want same data also you can go for client copy,

Hi Sadiq,

In QAS system, space is very less. So i cannot go with client copy.

Hi Sadiq,

I need all data from PRD to QAS.

Without increasing space, It cannot be done??

Or how is deleting all data from QAS and then copy data from PRD to QAS.

Thanks,

Sam

Hello

You both the server are in critical situation ,

QAS  few FS we can see 100% full

PRD few FS reached to 98%

First save  your system ,

and You have to add the space if you need the same data

Thanks

Hi Sam.

As correct said by Iqbal. you have to increase the space and follow the steps system refresh the data from PRD to QAS. Kindly refer the SCN link for Oracle backup /restore method.

Hi Sriram/Sadiq,

What would be your suggestion??

To do system copy only after increasing space??

Or do we have any option without increasing space??

Thanks,

Sam

Hello Sam,

You must align your filesystems before starting the restore. brrestore/brrecover will fail at the first step if there isn't enough space to restore your datafiles from PRD.

Hi Amerjit,

Thanks for your input.

Can you specify how to align file systems??

Thanks,

Hi Sam,

As your sys admin to check if there is enough space in the volume group to extend the filesystems. If there isn't enough space then your storage people will have to add space to the VG and then your sys admin can extend the LVs so that they are the same size as the LVs of PRD.

Hi Amerjit,

Thanks for your detailed input.

My question is that, without increasing space, how to get this job done??

Or is it not possible to do this task without increasing space??

Thanks,

Sam

You have to use the SAP TDMS which we already mention before.

Are you SAP Basis / ABAPer / Function consultant or system admin guy? Once again you are starting from the beginning... after so many reply's

Hello Sam,

If you want to use backup/restore then you must increase the filesystems in QAS.

TDMS has been discussed but that involves a *lot* of work and additional servers/installations + licensing and is probably overkill for what you are trying to achieve.

Keep it simple and just increase your QAS filesystems.

Hello Sam

This is to inform you to use TDMS there is cost involve

TDMS license depends on DB size of the Production system installation

Thanks
