Connecting SAP CAP with SAP Cloud ALM

Hello experts,

I have a question and hope you can help me. We currently have an SAP CAP application and would like to monitor it via SAP Cloud ALM. Do you have any idea how we can connect the SAP CAP application with the SAP CALM to start monitoring? So far we have created a service key in the CALM subaccount and set up a destination from the SAP CAP application in the SAP CAP Subaccount. Can you tell me how I should proceed?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Best regards,

Barc

You can find step by step instructions in SAP TechEd 2023 Exercise - XP261 What you get with this is only health check metrics for a node.js (or Java) application. CAP's open telemetry support does not support pushing data to Cloud ALM. So you don't get the additional measurements by CAP in Cloud ALM.

Hi Barc,

I guess you developed and deployed your CAP on SAP BTP Cloud Foundry. So here SAP Cloud ALM Setup Managed Components (Services & Systems) -

You can do a Setup for SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry environment. For example Health Monitoring for SAP BTP Cloud Foundry

Hello @TuncayKaraca & @carolinalechner ,

Thank you very much for your feedback. I truly appreciate your responses. After thoroughly reviewing the links you provided. Thanks to you I have come to the realization that unfortunately, it is not possible to connect an individual CAP application to CALM. As a result, we have decided to instead link Cloud Foundry with the CALM Health Monitor.

Allow me to briefly outline the progress of my work so far:

  • I have inserted the destination.
  • Created a service key in the CALM subaccount.
  • Set up the Alert Notification Service in the CF subaccount.
  • Added the Cloud Foundry subaccount to the scope selection.
  • Activated monitoring.

Essentially, I have followed all the instructions provided here: https://support.sap.com/en/alm/sap-cloud-alm/operations/expert-portal/health-monitoring/health-monit...  . According to my understanding, data should now be available. However, I have not yet received any data in the CALM Health Monitor.

Do you perhaps have any tips for me, or are you aware of any tutorials that could assist me further?

Once again, thank you very much for your help.

Best regards

Hello @TuncayKaraca,

Thank you for your help. You are absolutely right – I haven't considered the topic of OpenTelemetry so far. Have you worked with it before? I've looked at the documentation, but it's not entirely clear to me. Could you provide me with some more information?

I already opened a new question regarding this issue yesterday. https://community.sap.com/t5/technology-q-a/how-to-use-opentelemetry-for-sap-cloud-foundry-cloud-alm...  We are really struggling and hope you can assist us.

Thank you in advance!

Best regards

Hello @BarcDe,

No, I haven't worked on it. I do understand that the documentation is trying to say something, link by link, but it's not clear! I think SAP is basically saying that this process is not straightforward. 🙂 There's something about SAP Could ALM and its APIs for Operations

More prerequisites on OpenTelemetry@SAP and I'm even suspicious someone has done this before here on earth. ðŸ˜„ I think you should file an incident/report a case and ask for their assistance.

Hello @BarcDe ,

In this moment the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) is not supported by Cloud ALM. You can check all supported products here.

If the monitoring of this product is necessary, you can help us suggesting this feature request. For that, please check the note 11 - Would you like to shape & influence future releases of SAP Products?

Thanks and best regards,

Carolina
