Hi,

I'm trying to figure out if there are compatibility between Crystal Reports 32 bit & 64 bit. In particular, if I create a report with the 32 bit version am I able to edit it with the 64 bit version and vice versa?

Thank you

Yes and no....

There have been no major updates to the internal structure of .rpt files other than to add functionality since Crystal 9. However, 32-bit versions of Crystal need 32-bit data connections and Crystal 2020 needs 64-bit data connections. And you can't have two versions of Crystal installed side-by-side.

If you're using ODBC for your connections, it's fairly easy to configure a 32-bit DSN and a 64-bit DSN with the same name to make the connection from Crystal easy. With native Oracle connections, it's all configured in the tnsnames.ora file - so having the same aliases for both types of connections can facilitate this as well. However, Crystal 2020 also connects to newer versions of databases than the earlier versions of Crystal. So, there's no guarantee that the 32-bit version of Crystal that you have will be able to connect to the a database that Crystal 2020 can connect to.
