Introduction

High Availability (HA) ensures a system remains operational despite internal failures, allowing IT maintenance on Infrastructure, OS, and application level without business user disruption. This 24/7 accessibility is achieved by eliminating single points of failure, typically aiming for 99.99% uptime. In SAP, HA is often implemented through server clustering, storage replication with each method varying by product.

For example, Red Hat HA utilizes server clustering and resources like Virtual IPs, STONITH, ASCS/SCS, ERS and Database resources to manage master/slave roles. Windows clustering achieves HA by moving quorum disks between servers. While SUSE, RHEL, and Windows are well-known SAP HA options, other SAP-certified solutions exist, which is mentioned below,

SAP NetWeaver and HANA.
