Hi
I'm generally interested in ABAP testdrives. I don't use them for much, but for more than 20 years I have seen it as a challenge to make the newest version run.
I have currently ABAP Cloud Developer Trial 2022 SP01 running on Docker and this time I am actually using the testdrive to evaluate if it is also time for me to switch from SE38 to Eclipse 🤔
I can see that this version (Developer Trial 2022 SP01) also exist in a CAL / cloud version, but i'm not sure it is actually the same product? When reading the getting started guide, I get the impression that it is actually the same product - just running in cloud instead of on-premise(docker), but when I read the recommended VM sizes I don't understand anything.
The recommended size for the cloud version is 32 cores and 256 GB memory, but I run the Docker version on a labtop with 10 cores in total and out of 32 GB ram, only 20 GB is assigned to Docker .
The cost of a Cloud VM with 32 cores and 256 GB is astronomic (from a freelance ABAP'ers point of view) and I find it hard to believe that anyone use this option?
Regards Thomas
PS. I didn't really find a suitable "SAP Managed Tag" for this question, so I hope that it hits a suitable place in the Community.

Hi Thomas, @TMNielsen ,
Bet you thought we'd forgotten you :-|.
Finally, here it is: 64 GB memory, 8 cores:
SAP ABAP Platform 2023 developer edition on SAP HANA (CAL) .
Thanks for both pointing this out and testing.
Best wishes,

Hi Thomas,
FYI: Yes, it is the same version. Without getting into the weeds too much: We create the new ABAP Cloud Developer Trial version *in CAL*, then detach it.
Many thanks for this detailed information. It would appear at first glance that the information on Sizing has been updated for various products, and my no longer be directly applicable to ABAP Cloud Developer Trial.
When you say "The recommended size for the cloud version is 32 cores and 256 GB memory" - which product are you referring to?
Thanks and best wishes,
Julie.
