Hello,

We are upgrading Business Objects from 4.1 SP3 to 4.2 SP8, question is when migrating the content is there any order that we need to follow? i.e. first migrate Users, User groups, Profiles, Universes, Reports

We are using Promotion Manager tool to migrate the content.

Thanks,

Aravind

Michael answered your question, but I just wanted to give you a heads up.

4.2 SP8 is no longer in patch support so no further fixes will be supplied so if you run into any problems after migrating to it, you will not be able to get a fix. You would have to go to SP9.

4.2 SP9 is the last support pack for 4.2 and the only one that will be getting fixes from now on.

4.2 mainstream maintenance ends Dec 31, 2022 and there will be no further patches released and it will go into Priority 1 support until 2024.

4.3 is the current major release with SP2 coming out in December. It is where all innovation and updates will be going.

The BusinessObjects Administration manual has information about using the Command Line facility to move content and gives some information as to the order to use.

The following is the order I use. I use the Command Line functionality to move the content and I split the steps into specific objects to reduce the load. I realize the following is not a complete list of objects but it covers what we use.

  1. AccessLevels (Exclude built-in Full Control, Full Control (Owner), Schedule, View, etc)
  2. Profiles
  3. UserGroups (Users and User Groups should be moved in the same process)
  4. CalendarObjects
  5. ConnectionObjects
  6. UniverseObjects
  7. PublicCategories
  8. PublicFolders
  9. PublicDocuments
  10. PublicInstances
  11. PersonalCategories
  12. PersonalFolders
  13. PersonalDocuments
  14. PersonalInstances
  15. InboxObjects
  16. BIVariantObjects
  17. SecurityProfiles (IDT Universe Business and Data Security Restrictions)
  18. UserNotifications
  19. Projects (IDT Universe Project files)
  20. UserAttributes (Custom Mapped Attributes)
