BPS loading sequence

Hi Gurus

I did my research in forums abt BPS.

Actual Data = MD and TD which is alreday in BW

Plan data= Users enter this using Transaction cubes

my question is:

1. how does BPS cubes get the data?

2.do we load from BW cubes(Actual data) to BPS cubes?

3.do we do this in BW itself, or BPS is a different source system?

4. Imagine I want to create DP planning applx. Can some boby please give me a step by procedure to create, load and sisplay data... or else if you have any documentation (Screen shots), please email me at kavi.sdn@gmail.com

Hi,

In stead of having a multiplanning area, can we not use a single planning area where we take the actual data from OLTP system through update rule and planning data by changing the Load time behaviour i.e. making the infocube, planning allowed.

here we can distinguish actual and plan data with different value types.

Please let me know..

Bill,

This is technically possible but not a recommended design. It is recommended that actual data is stored in 'basic' infocube which is optimized for 'read' and plan data is stored in 'transactional' infocube which is optimized for 'write'.

You access this in a BW report or by in the BPS layouts if you configure the planig areas - cubes appropriately.

Hi,

how does BPS cubes get the data?

Normally we will assign the actual cube to standard planning area and plan cube (transactional cube) to other standard planning area.

Then create a planning level and planning layout under the planning area and then you can access the data through planning layout.

if you need to access both actual and plan then you have to create a multiplanning area and assign both cubes to the multiplanning area.

No , we will access the actual data from BW to BPS by assigning cube to planning area.

do we do this in BW itself, or BPS is a different source system

BPS is in BW system (3.5 )itself , no separate source system for BPS.

From help.sap

When creating a planning area you can branch straight to the Administrator Workbench. Here you can create a new InfoCube or edit an existing InfoCube to assign to the planning area.

The data that you store in the InfoCubes and access using planning areas normally originates from the applications in an operative SAP system. These applications have data extractors that supply the Business Information Warehouse with data.
