Hello gurus,

I would like to know as how to create the BIAR files. I went through the forum but could not get the solution. Even in import wizard pdf does not have the information on how to build BIAR files.

And is using Import wizard easy? I have to import a modified universe and a report built on that universe to production.

Please lt me know which is the best practice to move universe from one environment to another env, is it:

1. Source = Dev environment and destination = Prod env

or

2. source = Dev to BIAR file and from biar to production.

Thanks,

Naveen

Hi Naveen,

Yes, Import wizard is a good option for creating BIAR files.

BIAR files are only used when two systems are present remotely and cannot Comunicate to each other.

However if two system can communicate then please use the import wizard and not the BIAR file option.

Regarding your query

1. Source = Dev environment and destination = Prod env

or

2. source = Dev to BIAR file and from biar to production.

The better option is the first one if and only if the system can comunicate to each other.

I hope this answers your query

Hi,

1) Open IW and select source system as your dev.

2) Destination: BIAR (YOU NEED TO CREATE A BIAR FILE AND POINT THE DESTINATION TO THAT FILE I.E. you create empty text file and change the extension to .biar instead of .txt)

3) Thats it from then you need to follow the rules specified by import wizard guide.( i mean to say you need to know what you are planning to backup).

As far as i know its better to use Import wizard to migrate from dev to prod. Before doing that please make sure that you take back up of you FRS and take back up of The DEV using IW to Biar. Just for safety purpose.

Thanks,

SK.
