Best way of providing a clean/plain REST interface?

Hello everyone,

We want to develop new interfaces that we would like to offer (like almost everyone else) via REST interface. I am aware that I can develop this with ABAP RAP, but only the OData standard is offered here, and this is not always suitable or too inflexible.

We would like to develop “plain/clean REST APIs.” Is there a “best way” to do this, or is it only possible using SICF and the abap if_http_extension interface?

We don't want ODATA—just a pure JSON REST service.
