ASE Cache Partitions

I need to know what is the drawback to configuring large number of partitions for the cache, why not set all caches to 64 allowing a large number of process to access the cache?

The cache partitions can help reduce spinlock contention with a large number of symmetric multiprocessing cores. I imagine there's some overhead to using cache partitions so the question is, is cache spinlock contention an issue for you that needs to be fixed using cache partitions?

To see if it's a problem, run the sp_sysmon utility during heavy load:

If it is a problem, then try and solve it with cache partitions, otherwise "do no harm" (ie., don't cause problems by making unnecessary changes)
