AO connection to HANA direct ODBC connection

Hi Colleagues,

Is there an issue with this supported solution of SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office (AO) connection to HANA using direct ODBC (Type: Direct Connection) connection? AO export to excel and then if a reporting tool like Power BI is used I assume the note here is relevant 3255746 - Unpermitted usage of ODP Data Replication APIs - SAP for Me.?  

assumption:

1. is this is not live data when the query is run to pull new data.  
2. it is using 'The plug-in called SAP HANA EPM-MDS component (previously also known under the terms InformationAccess (InA) or MultiDimensional Services (MDS)))
3. the way to go would be to have a solution with SAP Analytics Cloud Connection, and configuration of SAC with Live Data Connections and have AO pull real-time data through this connection. License would require to be converted from basic? to SAP Analytics Cloud for Business Intelligence (BI), • For more see SAP Note 2885389 Note 2885389 SAP Note 2294147. This would also require converting license from 'Basic SAP Analytics Cloud which is pre-requisite for AO' to 'sap analytics cloud for business intelligence, public system option'. 

We do not have BW system, and runtime DB license.
