Hello Expert,
Analysis for Office (AFO) has two version
1. Analysis for Office Standard Edition - Assume under Business Object Enterprise License.
2. Analysis for Office Edition of SAC - Comes under SAP Analytics Cloud License.
As customer is new to SAP and would like to use excel base AFO version. Now the question is which one to choose - of course SAC is new SaaS product but looking at use to use just simple AFO functionality.
1. Does it make sense from cost perpective to use AFO standard edition which comes as SAP Business Object Enterprise Licence as against using AFO edition of SAC ?. How this architecture works when there is no SAP BW in landscape in terms of governance and security.
2. If answer to #1 is yes - then we storing workbook will have only one option i.e. on BI platform (since customer does not have SAP BW in their landscape). How security will be define here - Usually we inherit security from SAP BW to BOBJ. - Is it possible still to store workbook on BI Platform ?.
Any pointer ?.
Thanks,
Prashant Shah.

The below blog highlights a comparison between the 2 AFO types. The main differences are BI Platform, BPC integration and PowerPoint Integration. In terms of data sources I think both version have a parity. Also AFO workbooks have now been integrated into SAC Files repository. If your user base is mostly SAC users, SAC AFO should be fine.
Please Note for any data source connection through SAC AFO, you need a mandatory SAC authentication.

Hope it helps !!
