adding new columns to existing model from different source file

Hello All,

I am facing one issue with adding new columns from different source file ( excel) to existing model ( BW acquired Conection). I have one model created based on a import connection and now I want to add new columns to this model which will be coming from a excel file. This excel file has a common dimension which i want to use as a joining or linking dimension. when import this new file to the model and open the file to map , the measure is shown as dimension and no there is way to change it to measure.

If you have faced this and know how to resolve this issue , would really appreciate your help. Thank you in advance

Regards,

Anita

Once the model is created, you are not able to add new column(dimension) into the model when import data from file. What you can do is, first add this new dimension into model through modeler and then load data from file into this updated model.

Hi William, I added the rebuild the model and added the blank columns for the columns I want to add. However when i add new import file only with these new columns and map it with the newly created columns, I still get error that the rest of dimensions are not mapped. So I tried to set the default value either value or '#', is this correct approach?

Hi Antia,

Of course you need either map a dimension with a column from file or assign a default value, that's the right approach.

Best regards, William

hi William, i added the new dimensions / measures to actual model but does the load file should have data for all columns or can just be for the new columns?

Uploading data to model is always for all dimensions and measures.
