Within dangerous goods there are many special provisions and exemptions to save money. This happens when something that is a dangerous good can be transported as a normal good. An example could be an internal combustion engine, there are oils, lubricants or coolants which individually need to be treated as a dangerous good, but as part of an engine, an exemption applies.

The Selection Rules for Exemptions rule set for the selection of description templates for exemptions and special provisions is delivered as SAP content with the compliance requirement that represents the dangerous goods regulation. It contains the assignment of the exemptions or special provisions as specified in the various dangerous goods regulations to exemption categories.

You, as a customer, can't change the content delivered by SAP. To enable you to use additional exemptions and special provisions in the classification process, the Configure Compliance Requirements - Dangerous Goods app is provided. With this app, you can extend additional selection rules to the delivered rule sets for the compliance requirement that you've selected in the Activate Compliance Requirements – Dangerous Goods app. The selection rules that you've specified in the Configure Compliance Requirements - Dangerous Goods app are used to determine the applicable description template to generate the correct dangerous goods description for documents.

With this feature, you can include data for additional exemptions and special provisions to the data that is delivered with the compliance requirements that represent the dangerous goods regulation to a packaged product.

Now we can add our new exemption to a packaged product.

We start by going into the My Packaged Dangerous Goods app.

After choosing the packaged product, we scroll down to the Dangerous Goods Classification.

Michael_Mulder_4-1710398365067.pngWe can specify our variant to all regulations at the same time, using the Specify Enclosure Variant.

Here we can specify the enclosure variant, transport permission and now also the exemption category, then click Save.

When using the mass change functionality, not all regulations will have this exemption. When you finish, the system will inform you which regulation were changed, and which were not.

To complete the process, we can Determine Labels and then Release the classification for use.

When the output for the documents is created, an Exemption Phrase is used. This is due to the need to include the Exemption Category because the exemption has different names depending on the regulation (ADR, CFR 49, etc.) involved and the text needed in the output is different.

Within the regulations, we see the Description Templates as well as the Exemption-Specific Selection Rules tabs.
