Heads up: If your joining us here, this is a bonus exercise (supplementary of 3 previous exercises) in the SAP Cloud Platform Technical Academy (Canadian Roadshow & SAP Blogs Edition). That means these tutorials or “exercises” are extremely well-documented and will walk you through every step with screenshots and instructions.
Summary of Exercise:
In this exercise you will download the SAP Fiori Client from your respective app store, either on iOS or Android. You'll then assign your SAP Fiori Launchpad to be accessible from the SAP Fiori Client, natively (sort of) on your device.
What will you use?
What will you learn?
- Leverage the SAP Fiori Client for your SAP Fiori Launchpad
Let's get started!
SAP Fiori Client is a native mobile application runtime container for SAP Fiori that allows users to access their SAP Fiori launchpad in online mode. It can be downloaded from the public app stores for
iOS and
Android.
SAP Fiori Client overcomes limitations in the mobile browser by providing a reliable caching mechanism for SAP Fiori application assets, and also provides device APIs (such as camera, barcode scanner, and geolocation) to SAP Fiori applications. SAP Fiori Client is designed around Apache Cordova architecture, where device APIs and custom functionality are added through plugins.
Download the SAP Fiori Client
If you haven't already, download the client from your respective app store. I'll be using my iPhone for this exercise, so I'll download the client from the App Store.
Simply navigate to the
App Store, go to the
Search screen and search for the
"SAP Fiori Client". The developer listed is
SAP SE.
Download the application.
Configure the SAP Fiori Client
Once downloaded, open the SAP Fiori Client. Tap
Log In to begin. You'll require the URL to your SAP Fiori launchpad here. You can access it from
Exercise #3. Paste the entire URL.
You specify the scheme, host, and port of your server, followed by the suffix of the SAP Fiori endpoint. For example:
https://my.smp.server:8081/sap/bc/ui5_ui5/ui2/ushell/shells/abap/FioriLaunchpad.html
Also, verify the following doesn't appear at the end of your URL. If it does, simply remove it from the URL: #Shell-home. Tap
OK once complete.
The SAP Fiori Client enforces a passcode. You can also leverage Touch ID on your iOS device. Tap
OK.
Test your SAP Fiori Launchpad on the SAP Fiori Client
Once configure, you will be asked to authenticate using your SAP Cloud Platform user credentials and then you're in! You can now test your SAP Fiori Launchpad and the SAP Translate app created in the previous exercises.
Congratulations - you've completed all exercises, including the bonus exercise!
There's more to come!
