Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the first episode of my blog! My name is Fabian Caelers, and I've been working with the SAP Fieldglass solution for about six years. I have been implementing Fieldglass projects for our customers in the past 2.5 years in Delivery at SAP and prior to that, in consulting and managing an MSP Program for a customer.

This blog is designed to provide Fieldglass users with valuable tips and tricks for system usage. While some of these tips may be helpful for the typical day-to-day user, the majority will focus on quick-win configuration changes and updates. These changes are sure to have an immediate impact and enhance the solution's functionality. We have noticed that some of our customers struggle to utilize the solution to its full potential and that some enhancements made over the past few years often go unnoticed.

To address this, we are starting this series to encourage you to familiarize yourself with different Fieldglass functionalities and features. Each episode will introduce around three functionalities. To kick things off, I will focus on features from the most recent major release this past November.

Activity Item Checklists

This functionality allows Buyers and Suppliers to group Activity Items into levels within an Activity Checklist. Multiple Activity Items can be completed simultaneously before advancing to the next level. This update ensures that each onboarding step is completed in the proper sequence and that essential tasks, such as training or documentation completion, are fulfilled before granting workers access to sensitive information or systems. For further instructions on how to benefit from this feature, check out the link below:

Auto-Generate Security ID

This new company sub-configuration allows a Security ID to be automatically generated from a Buyer-defined pattern based on a combination of native SAP Fieldglass fields and required custom fields. Different patterns can be defined for each country/region or for all Security IDs. This new sub-configuration minimizes the risk of incorrect Security ID entry by Buyer and Supplier users, which can negatively impact key features such as Consolidated Worker Records, Potential Matches, and Tenure Policy Management.

Discussions around Security IDs are common in most implementation projects I've been part of, so this is a significant improvement. However, this enhancement is more beneficial for new customers than for existing ones, as it does not consider any entered IDs from historical or recent workers, which may lead to inconsistencies.

Allow Clickable Hyperlinks

Though not necessarily a feature that needs to be activated, it’s important to note: When a custom field or chat message contains a hyperlink, the link is now directly clickable within the Fieldglass application. This feature allows customers to store URLs in custom fields across various modules within Fieldglass, linking to other tools used in their processes and enhancing user experience. It works only for Text Area data type custom fields, and if your company has an Allowed URL List, only the listed URLs will work. If not, all URLs will be allowed. This feature is also compatible with data uploads. Importantly, it does not impact existing functionality of Integration uploads with the allow_html_tags_in_value_flag at the custom field level – these will remain unchanged.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Stay tuned for the next episode, and until then, enjoy the holiday season!

Clickable hyperlinks are such a simple but needed improvement 🙂
