A quick Google search will tell you that the NAS vs SAN debate is often a popular topic of discussion – which storage method is better? Which one is right for you? What’s the difference between the two?

While a general views seems to be that SANs are faster than NAS, they are also seen as more expensive. As a result, some companies even adopt “no SAN expansion policies” and ask employees to share their SAN with other groups, which can lead to unpredictable performance!

With IQ 16 SP08 PL20 on Linux comes NFS support, which enables you to run IQ on Network attached storage, for both Simplex and Multiplex configurations, with NFS 3.0 and later.  If SANs have so far been an expensive or undesirable solution for you, you can now break free and enjoy the benefits of running IQ on Network Attached Storage – a less complex architecture, cheaper deployment, and easier implementation, just to name a few.

Regardless of your company’s strategy, IQ continues to innovate to help your business run better, and simpler!

What are your thoughts on NAS vs SAN? When do you use which?
