What a fine day. The sun spread its rays gently across the trees and the little lake next to our hotel. Inside, we were enjoying breakfast. This was important stuff, as we needed a sound base to set us up for this day. You probably know by now that Innojam comes with the pleasure of spending 30 hours indoors, among a bunch of techies that sweat blood and tears to get a solution to work. You need a healthy intake of nutrition to make such an event work, which is just what we were doing.
Belly full and full of expectation we went to the offices of SAP Netherlands, situated in a nice industrial area on the outskirts of 's-Hertogenbosch. If you ever get the opportunity to come here, make sure to see the building at night. It presents itself with an array of neatly arranged glitz surrounding a massive SAP logo. Yes, this building sort of sticks out of the other blocks around it. It's the perfect location for an indoor event that takes places on a day that probably should have been spent outdoors. It was such a fine day.
Now, fast forward to 10 pm. It's pitch black. Earlier today about 40 people arrived and listend to a short keynote by Jan Koster introducing the context of the challenges, which we pre-defined for the participants to tackle. This time it's all about health care. Well, not health care in the widest sense. We did set a focus on heart disease. Still, we have challenges that address prevention, monitoring, and getting patients to actually show up for an appointment. There were a handful of experts ready to be interviewed and participants used the opportunity to the full extent. Including Design Thinking really does add a whole new flavor to the event, giving teams a vehicle to channel their creative spirit and make technology the servant of a meaningful solution. 100% guarantee that satisfaction with the outcomes increases  .
So, after running through the Design Thinking process for most of the day, we moved on the technical part. Techfire stood up to its promise with Matthias Steiner, Niels van Noort, Onno Bagijn, Martijn Tielen and Giel Janssen Lok dropping some jaws with real life coding of apps in 6 minutes (or a few more). Allowing participants to take in what they just witnessed, we got ot enjoy some lovely pasta for dinner. We then had the teams move into their separate rooms to start the main part, which is of course the coding with SAP technologies. Well, and that's where we are right now. A few people went home or to the hotel, a few brought sleeping bags and a few are probably making it through the night (super hard-core, taking my hat off for you guys). Altogether, a very fine (1st InnoJam) day, indeed. Actually, let me add wonderful, inspiring, spirited, fun and awesome to that.
