To simplify the SAP Analytics Cloud asset landscape and give our customers tools to increase their efficiency, we have integrated some of the core features of the SAP Digital Boardroom directly within the Unified Story. The improvements are available to all customers.
Based on the feedback from our existing SAP Digital Boardroom customers, we wanted to ensure that the Presentation Mode address some key pain points. It includes performance, accidental updates, and feature parity.
It is currently available as a Controlled Release for our existing Digital Boardroom customers in the 2024 Q1 QRC (Quarterly Release Cycle) with a General Availability in the 2024 Q2 QRC (or 2024.07 for our Fast Track customers).
For more information on the Presentation Mode, read the Blog Post Presentation Mode: Integration of Core Digital Boardroom Features in the Optimized Experience
Let us have a closer look at how to replace an existing Digital Boardroom with the Presentation Mode. It includes a two-step process:
Presentation Mode is an extension of the Optimized Story Experience. It means that as a pre-requisite, the assets need to be migrated to the Optimized Story Experience.
It is important to note that the conversion from Classic to Optimized Story Experience will provide two options:
NOTE: it does mean that existing Digital Boardrooms that consume this asset will be in a broken state as SAP Analytics Cloud does not support the consumption of assets within the Optimized Story Experience.
NOTE: it does mean that users who had access to this story will NOT have access to the converted story and existing Bookmarks attached to the story will no longer be available. It is recommended to use this option as a validation step before migrating the original asset.
You would have to repeat this process for all stories that are used in the SAP Digital Boardroom Dashboard. We will then open one of the Stories (it is recommended to use the one with the most number of pages from the original SAP Digital Boardroom) and build a presentation structure by importing all pages or a subset of pages from the other converted stories.
We have a Classic SAP Digital Boardroom Asset which uses 2 stories and has a structure as per the below screenshot:
Stories used in this SAP Digital Boardroom asset:
We will demo the migration of one story here and repeat the same for the other. For demo purposes, we are migrating Demo_15429_BestRunBikes because of the complexity.
We open the story and under Save Menu select Convert to Optimized Design Experience.
This will first list out the features which are blocking the migration.
After making the necessary corrections to the table, which was blocking my migration, we saved the story and selected Convert to Optimized Design Experience
Since all blocking features are handled we get an option to in-place migration or migrate and save as a new Story. We have shared the advantages of each approach above. Here we choose to Convert + Save As, this will help us validate the Presentation Structure with the Classic SAP Digital Boardroom asset.
We will repeat the same process for “Demo_15429_Landing_Page”.
Within the Edit Mode of “Demo_15429_BestRunBikes – Optimized Design Experience”, we now offer a new option to add pages workflow called Import Story Pages. This is also accessible via the Add Page Button in the Page Tab Bar or the + in the Page section of the Outline Panel.
Here we will import “Demo_15429_Landing_Page – Optimized Design Experience” (the second story migrated).
Unified Story also allows users to import Hidden Pages and they remain hidden in the Target Story as well.
Here “Overview” page is hidden in the original story.
Once the import process is completed, SAC provides a Status update.
Once the process is completed, save the story.
The option to configure the presentation is accessible via the Outline Panel – Presentation or the Toolbar under Edit Story (Wrench) – Presentation Settings.
Within the Presentation Settings, the Designer has the flexibility to group pages under Topics or Sub-Topics. The combination of Topics and Sub-Topics will lead to a tree structure that guides the presenter. There are a few things to keep in mind when building your presentation:
Post configuring the presentation structure, save the story and click on Present Mode (available in the Top Right corner).
Note: Users can always switch displaying a Story between View Mode or Present Mode.
The final output looks like below:
The Toolbar here is floating. Let’s Set it to the bottom of the screen to mimic the Action Bar from Digital Boardroom. To do this navigate to Toolbar under View Time Settings in Edit Story (wrench).
Select the Mode as Present. The default configuration for Toolbar is Floating and we will change this to Set and select Screen Position as Bottom.
Automatically Show and Hide Toolbar makes the toolbar visible only when the user moves the cursor to the Top or Bottom of the screen depending on the Toolbar Screen Position setting.
