As SAP aims to enhance the performance of its services offered to its customers, we would like to keep you updated about the latest feature updates of Document Information Extraction. This blogpost is here to introduce the
de-skewing and de-rotation feature.
Often, we are in a hurry, don’t pay enough attention and take photos of documents which are not perfectly straight, clear or at correct angle and therefore they cannot be fully processed by machine learning applications.
The de-rotation and de-skewing feature of Document Information Extraction is aimed to resolve this problem. It's flexible, intelligent and easy to use.
With this improvement, Document Information Extraction is able to
accept documents which are rotated in different directions. Going from 90°, 180° to 270° this feature also allows the angle deviating from the multiples of 90° to at least 15° (for example: 90°+ 15° and 180° + 15°).
Not only the angle of a flat document can be de-rotated, but
it can also be de-skewed, when the photo contains a slightly tilted or skewed text. Depending upon the document, it does a very good job for a skew of at least 5° to 10°.
Here are some of the raw text samples and under each sample is the de-rotated version of it.
