Discover Data Products with SAP Datasphere Catalog

We recently delivered roadmap item that enables seamless data journey experience by integrating data products into the SAP Datasphere catalog

The new feature enhances the discovery experience of SAP Datasphere by integrating data products from SAP Datasphere data marketplace in SAP Datasphere catalog. You can now explore data products be it external or internal from various sources and providers using the same catalog UI.

Our motivation

Data products in SAP Datasphere data marketplace are a valuable source of information and insights for various use cases, such as modeling, consumption, and analytics. However, finding and accessing the right data products can be challenging, especially when they are scattered across different platforms and interfaces.

We aim to unify the discovery experience for Datasphere by providing single place to access metadata and data. This builds on availability of SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Datasphere metadata in the catalog and similarly now data products from SAP Datasphere data marketplace.

How it works?

The new feature offers several benefits for end users who want to discover and browse data products:

• Data products are available as a tab in the catalog UI, making them easy and fast to find.
• Data products inherit the proven facets from the data marketplace UI, such as aggregator, data category, context etc, allowing you to filter and refine your search results.
• Data products can be easily favourited in catalog enabling you to organize and access them conveniently.

Future outlook

The new feature is the first step towards our vision to provide a comprehensive and integrated catalog where users can seamlessly discover, understand, and consume data within a unified platform.  In the future, we would enable discovery of LOB data products provided by SAP enabling seamless consumption within Datasphere modelling experience.

Additionally, the integrated catalog marketplace experience would bring established features such as metadata enrichment, lineage and impact analysis, access control etc for managing all metadata and data to support you in data governance journey.
