Third-party cookies are generally used for tracking, advertising, session management, single sign-on (SSO), and personalization. At SAP, they’re used for session management and SSO.
For data privacy reasons, browser vendors are currently deprecating or limiting the use of third-party cookies to prevent user tracking.
Starting in Q1 2024, Google has restricted third-party cookies in Google Chrome by default for 1% of users, and they’re planning to expand third-party cookie restrictions to 100% from early 2025. See Chrome's third-party cookie deprecation.
The Custom Domain service in SAP BTP, Neo Environment, is now offering three console client commands for managing a third-party cookie deprecation (TPCD) trial token:
Setting up a TPCD trial token for your custom domain allows you to continue using restricted third-party cookies in your browser.
Note: Please keep in mind that these commands are a temporary solution and will be removed once Google no longer provides the token functionality. That’s why you should consider migrating to a sustainable solution.
For more information about the handling of third-party cookie deprecation at SAP and the actions you’ll need to undertake to achieve a sustainable solution, see 3409306 - Removal of Third-Party Cookies in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge Browser - SAP for Me. This SAP Note also contains information about the third-party cookie deprecation process relevant for other browsers such as Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari.
Note: The third-party cookie deprecation process might or might not apply to your use case. Please refer to the SAP Note for the specific technical details on this topic.
