Transforming the future of business process management

The landscape of process modeling is evolving rapidly. As the demand for documenting and analyzing business processes increases, process modelers face growing challenges in keeping up with the pace. Limited capacity, uncertainty on where to start, and the need for more efficient collaboration between process experts and BPMN specialists often slow down the process.

What if you could begin with a draft and refine it instead of starting from scratch? What if business experts, rather than only BPMN specialists, could contribute directly to process models? These are the questions driving SAP Signavio’s upcoming innovation: AI-assisted process modeler, text to process (see availability and activation).

Introducing AI-assisted process modeler, text to process in SAP Signavio

As the first feature under our AI-assisted process modeler initiative, text to process enables process modelers and subject matter experts to significantly reduce the time required to create new processes. By simply providing a text prompt, AI automatically translates it into a well-structured BPMN diagram, which can then be further refined and customized.

Check it out with this video.

How it works

Imagine you have just concluded a workshop with colleagues, capturing key process steps in a whiteboarding tool, a PDF document, or a Word file. Instead of manually converting this information into a BPMN model, you can now input the text directly into SAP Signavio, and AI will generate an initial process model for you. If needed, you can regenerate the model from scratch or fine-tune the generated diagram.

What makes a good prompt?

To ensure the best possible BPMN diagram generation, a good prompt should follow these best practices:

  • Define the process scope
    • Clearly state the objective of the process.
    • Identify start and end points, along with any key milestones.
  • Structure the process logically
    • Describe a Start Event to indicate where the process begins.
    • Break the process into clear activities or tasks.
    • Use a sequential order that mirrors real-world execution.
  • Include decision points and conditions
    • Specify conditions that determine different pathways.
    • Define actions based on different outcomes (e.g., approval vs. rejection scenarios).
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness
    • Provide sufficient detail while avoiding unnecessary complexity.
    • Make sure key actors, dependencies, and interactions are clearly stated

Example of a good prompt:

"The process starts when a payroll data alert is assigned. The agent assesses the alert. If no data change is needed, the agent comments and closes the alert. If a data change is required, the agent consults with the line manager, determines if an update is needed, and corrects the payroll data if necessary. If additional updates are required, the agent works with the system administrator to finalize changes before closing the alert."

 Benefits

Process modeling for an enterprise can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars annually, factoring in the time it takes to collect inputs, create or update hundreds of process models. By leveraging the AI-assisted process modeler, text to process capability, this amount can be reduced significantly while giving time back to then be used to customers advantage.

Key benefits include:

  • Faster time to value: Rapidly generate process models from text, reducing the time spent on manual diagram creation.
  • Enhanced collaboration: Simplify complex process descriptions by turning them into visual models, improving cross-team communication.
  • Flexible editing: Ensure continuous improvement of models with the ability to save and refine them in SAP Signavio Process Manager.

Availability and activation

The AI-assisted process modeler, text to process feature is planned to be generally available in March 2025 (subject to change). Reach out to your account executive or customer success partner for updates on release date and more information on how to access this capability. Also visit the roadmap explorer for further details.

The future of AI in process modeling

This is just the beginning of an exciting journey towards AI-driven process modeling. In the coming months, SAP Signavio will continue to introduce innovative AI-powered features, enhancing productivity and enabling more intuitive process management.
