In the previous releases of SAP Analytics Cloud, we have had the use of the Data Analyzer, when analyzing data from SAP BW or SAP HANA - but if we needed to investigate data from other data sources, we needed to export them into MS Excel or other tools.

In this blog post, I will give you insight into how you can use the Data Analyzer on other data sources, and how this can give you added value as a business user

When opening the SAP Analytics Cloud tenant, the option "Data Analyzer" is now available. Once selected, you can choose a model or a data source to analyze:

Then you can select any data source or model created, and start analyzing, in this example I choose a model based on an Excel sheet, already uploaded to Google drive:

After you have selected a model or a data source, you will be able to drill down on dimesions, do filtering and use the other functionlaities you know from Data Analyzer - on non-SAP data.

By using the Data Analyzer on other data sources, you will enable your business users to use the Data Analyzer in their daily work.

A common use case is, if you have a data source, and make a chart on this data source - but the users wish to see deeper into the numbers you have provided - instead of sending the data, or making many different charts - you can provide the users access to the underlying data, and give them the option to analyze it, directly in the browser.

You then open the Data Analyzer, open the Model, and save the story. Then you can actually link to this story from your other stories, or share the URL directly with your end users.

The Data Analyzer can be used to analyze data both from SAP BW, SAP HANA and now also with data from any other data source, as described in this blog post. You can also use it as a story and link to this story as a kind of a deep dive functionality for your end users.

This functionality was delivered in version 2021.20, and you can read more here: https://help.sap.com/viewer/00f68c2e08b941f081002fd3691d86a7/release/en-US/67afbf41f24f4cb48ca7bd72d...
