Introduction

I have experimented a bit with SAP Cloud Transport Management.
I would like to share my experiences in this blog post.

The Big Picture

As usual on SAP BTP you have to use a service from the service marketplace to use the SAP Cloud Transport Management. You also have to create a solution landscape on the SAP BTP.

I designed it as follows:

SAP Cloud Transport Management

The application looks likt this:

Transport Nodes

I created Transport Nodes for every System, like my 3 system landscape DEV, QAS, PRD.

Transport Routes

Very similar to the transport routes in classic ABAP.

Landscape Visualization

I really like the visualization with the status of the import queues and it gives a good overview.

Integration with SAP Cloud ALM

For a comprehensive SAP ALM, it is important that SAP Cloud Transport Management can also be connected to SAP Cloud ALM. This means that the entire life cycle from the process, the requirement, testing to deployment and operation can be managed. Here a useful blogpost: Link

From my point of view, the following points are important for Transport Management/Deloyments

  • The connection of hybrid landscapes
  • The central control of deployments
  • Orchestrating multiple system landscapes
  • Deployments of hybrid development technologies
  • Central, clear reporting
  • Options for intervention in the event of errors
  • Integration with SAP Cloud ALM
